Hours: Part-Time (based on 16 hours per week, negotiable)

Salary: Living Wage (currently £9.30/hr)

About Finding Your Feet

Finding Your Feet supports Scottish families affected by amputation or limb absence, through a range of sporting initiatives and social inclusion projects designed to positively affect both physical and mental wellbeing.

Our charity was set up by Dr Cor Hutton in 2014 after she lost her hands and legs below the knee to sepsis the year before. Recognising a need for peer support within the amputee community, she started a small group which has grown to a network of over 800 in just six years.

Finding Your Feet has a strong impact on the community because of our positive and encouraging outlook, which stems from and mirrors Cor’s attitude. We promote achievement and success in the amputee community, both big and small, and provide opportunities for our Troopers (amputees) to engage in activities which challenge their expectations of themselves and those that others may have of them. We encourage adventure and challenge as well as support and a feeling of safety.


Purpose of the position

The main objective of our Trooper Liaison Co-Ordinator is to provide support and empower new amputees joining Finding Your Feet to thrive after limb loss.

You will be an integral part of our Peer Support Programme which is designed to support amputees so that they feel less isolated. Through this service, we want to help new amputees and people facing amputation access help at the earliest possible stages of recovery – when they have the most questions and uncertainty regarding life after limb loss.

The role of the Trooper Liaison Co-Ordinator is to be the first point of contact for new amputees looking to become part of the Finding Your Feet community. You will liaise with our Peer Support Volunteers to identify new Troopers and be the person to return direct enquiry phone calls, emails and messages and provide information on what we do. You will also support and encourage existing Troopers. You will eventually report to our Wellbeing Officer (this is a new position which we are hoping to have in place by the end of 2020) to help them provide individual wellbeing assessments for all new Troopers and ‘prescribe’ individual programmes based on personal needs and goals. Until this new role is filled, you will report to our CEO, Nicola Booth.


Who we are looking for

We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring individual to join our team based in Paisley*. For the foreseeable future, this will be a home-based position until such a time we can safely return to the office. This is an exciting opportunity to join an enthusiastic team who are determined to help individuals with amputation or congenital limb absence reach their potential.

It is essential that our Trooper Liaison Co-ordinator has personal experience of amputation or congenital limb absence and can use their lived experience to offer an empathetic listening ear, as well as advice and support. 


Key responsibilities & duties

  • To be part of the Peer Support Programme and make telephone calls, home visits and hospital visits*
  • To keep accurate contact records and update our online database regularly.
  • To be the Finding Your Feet representative at agreed clubs and activities*
  • To provide information on FYF clubs, activities and support programmes
  • To signpost to other relevant forms of support/information agencies
  • To encourage along to Ampu-Teas/clubs*
  • To promote the benefits of an active and sociable lifestyle
  • To be empathetic and supportive to amputees and their partners/family members
  • To fill out Trooper Contact form with the amputee.

*Subject to Scottish Government COVID-19 Guidelines.


Skills & Requirements

      • MUST HAVE
        • Personal experience of amputation or congenital limb absence.
        • Have undertaken FYF’s Peer Support training.
        • Satisfactory PVG Disclosure and two satisfactory character references (FYF will organise this).
        • Signed confidentiality agreements.
      • YOU SHOULD BE:
        • A good listener and empathetic.
        • Reliable.
        • IT competent (although training on our systems will be provided).
        • A good communicator.
        • Organised and thorough.
