Charlie has had it rough, which makes his smile all the more powerful. Take a minute to read his story.
“I’m Charlie. I was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition – Cowden’s Syndrome – in 1992, leaving me facing various disabilities. It’s a genetic condition causing my nerves to crumble away and lumps all over my body making walking difficult. I’ve had 25 operations on my right forearm and now it’s basically non-functional. Myself and my doctors have now decided on having it amputated. I see this as a fresh start, not a barrier. Finding your feet has helped me so much in a short time and I know they’ll be right there after my surgery. Meeting other amputees has taken away any fear of being one myself. I can’t thank them enough.
