Travel Discounts
National Entitlement Card – You could be eligible for free bus travel to get around Scotland and your local area. To apply for a National Entitlement Card, you should contact your local authority for details of the application process in your area. Your local authority will be able to tell you if you need to complete an application form and what you need to do when you apply. For more information on the NEC card please click here
Holders of National Entitlement Cards may also get concessionary train travel. Some local councils offer disabled people free or discounted train travel. Visit National Rail Enquiries to check if this is available in your area.
Disabled Persons Railcard – Get 1/3 off adult rail fares for travel on the National Rail network in Great Britain. If you’re travelling with another adult they will also get 1/3 off their rail fare, so you can save money for a friend or family member too. A child aged 5 to 15 years can apply for a standard Disabled Rail Card which doesn’t offer any additional discount as they get 50% reduction anyway but will grant an accompanying adult a third off their ticket as long as they travel together. There are no time restrictions on the Disabled Persons Railcard, so you can use it to get a discount on tickets at any time of the day. Caledonian MacBrayne – offer a 25% discount on the price of a vehicle ticket (car/motorhome/motorbike) for customers who hold a blue badge issued by a member state of the European Union. The discount does not apply to the passenger/driver ticket. More information can be found here.
National Express Disabled Coachcard – If you’re registered disabled, you can save 1/3 off standard fares anytime throughout the UK for 12 months. With the Coachcard, there are no restrictions on peak and off peak travel times, so you can travel when it suits you and your plans. This includes public holidays, bank holidays and weekends. Leisure Discounts
The CEA Card – is a national concessionary card developed by the UK Cinemas Association in order to ensure reasonable adjustments are provided for disabled guests who might need assistance whilst visiting the cinema Although cinema staff should make adjustments for you whether you have a CEA Card or not. The card entitles the holder to one free ticket per cinema visit to the person accompanying them. Merlin’s Magic Wand – is a worldwide charity for seriously ill, disabled or disadvantaged children aged 2 to 18 years. They arrange magical days out at Merlin Entertainments’ attractions, such as LEGOLAND Resorts, SEA LIFE centres, The London Eye and Madame Tussauds, although other requests may be considered. The Max Card – is a discount card for foster families and families of children with additional needs. Families simply show their Max Card upon entry to a venue in order to obtain free or discounted admission.The scheme is designed to help these families save money on great days out at castles, zoos, bowling alleys and more. Other Discounts
VAT-Free Purchases – If you’re disabled or have a long-term illness, you won’t be charged VAT on products designed or adapted for your own personal or domestic use. Also, you won’t be charged VAT on:
- The installation and any extra work needed as part of this
- Repairs or maintenance
- Spare parts or accessories
