Are You a Competitive Sprinter?

November 28, 2018
Are you a competitive Sprinter, or perhaps compete in a similar area and can help Mia, a 4th year Sports Engineering student at the University of Strathclyde. She got in touch looking for help with a great project:
‘For my project this year, I have chosen to study the disadvantages of competitive amputee sprinting when a bend is incorporated (200/400m events). I would be looking to generate concepts of a blade which, perhaps, adjusts in length to accommodate for the athlete’s natural lean when encountering a bend. Also, something that i have considered is a redesign of the limb fitting process. This would see an athlete’s gait data processed through a flow chart which would result in idealistic material and structural properties to suit them. What im looking for would be the current lower limb prosthesis fitting process (what parameters are taken into consideration). As well as this, any specific technologies/engineering which are used in high end sporting limbs today’
