Alan Henderson

Alan Henderson became a below-knee left leg amputee in 2013, after a diagnosis of epithelioid sarcoma, a rare cancer. He set about it the way he sets about most things, one goal at a time: first the prosthetic, then walking without crutches, then getting back behind the wheel. There are still harder days, on crutches or in the wheelchair, but as he puts it, finding your normal takes time and it’s achievable.

Alan works in cyber security for Jacobs Solutions Ltd. Away from work, he’s long been interested in how technology can make life easier for amputees, from home automation to the small engineering fixes that open things back up. A keen cyclist, he’d tinker with pedals and crank systems to make riding easier, and he’s found his way back to golf and badminton too.

Alan met Cor at WestMARC in Finding Your Feet’s earliest days and supported it from the background for years, through fundraising and donations. When he was asked to become a Trustee, he said he couldn’t have said yes fast enough. He’s already putting his expertise to work, helping shape FYF’s approach to Ai and getting the charity set up with Cyber Essentials.
