Seyda Oates

Şeyda (pronounced Sh-eyda) became a double below-knee amputee at 21 following a bacterial meningitis diagnosis in 2019. In the years that followed, she spent time on haemodialysis while completing her university studies, before receiving a life-saving kidney transplant from her mother in 2022.

What Şeyda brings to Finding Your Feet is something that can’t be taught. She knows what it’s like to face limb absence as a young person, to navigate the parts of that journey that don’t come with a guide, and to keep building a life anyway. She joined as a trustee with a clear purpose: to help build the support system she wishes she’d had, helping younger Troopers navigate life’s hurdles and find their independence on their own terms.

Now 27, Şeyda is also passionate about movement and creativity, whether that’s functional fitness, dance or other creative outlets. She’s a welcome addition to the FYF community, and a voice that matters.
