In 2023, Linda had a very unfortunate night where she fell asleep against an oil radiator and her leg was badly burned. Because Linda has Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (hyper-mobile type), she didn’t feel it in her sleep. She then spent the next 2 years fighting a bone infection through multiple surgeries.
Linda’s story shows the importance of getting a second opinion when suitable. With her first recommendations, she was due to be moved into palliative care because they didn’t think she had a chance at making it. Thankfully a second doctor – one who had performed some of her surgeries – suggested amputation, which saved Linda’s life.
Linda has a message for doctors everywhere…
“Listen to your patients, please. It could save a life.” – Linda
It’s still early days in Linda’s amputation journey, but she’s already thriving and living her best life. She had always been active and wanted to continue that by setting the challenge of taking on our Fourth Bridge Abseil later this year.
“I need to make the most of this second chance at life and the FYF challenge has helped motivate me to get me off my bum, out the wheelchair, working out again with FYF and wearing my prosthetic regularly.”
We asked Linda what’s next on her bucket list after the abseil… and she’s hoping to do a parachute jump next year – definitely can’t tie this one down.
