A Look Back At 2018

December 20, 2018

As a new year begins we thought we’d take a look back at 2018 and what was an absolutely huge year for our charity. Speaking of huge, look at the size of Dwayne The Rock Johnson‘s muscles as he admires our work!

Our second flashback is about Double amputee grandfather Alan  who went from being stuck in the house watching television to being interviewed on it, when he took on the West Highland Way over 7 days in a TerrainHopper. Now, he meets new amputees in hospital on  behalf of the charity, and was our fundraiser of the year. The growth we can see in him since his first visit is as good an example as any of why we do what we do, and proof that it works.

In the spirit of looking back at the amazing year we’ve had, how can we not mention the Bionic Bash? What a phenomenal night we all had, but even better that you all stumped up to help us raise over £50,000! This money is all going to changing the lives of amputees, many of whom were there on the night. We’ll never forget it.

This year we sent five of our troopers away on tall ship voyages. They have thoroughly enjoyed their sailing experience and mucking in working on the ships. We’d like to thank Jubilee Sailing Trust for subsidising the prices of their 2019 voyages for us! This has allowed us to offer spaces at a discounted price to anyone interested (able bodied or not), in experiencing what it’s like to work a tall ship and make new friendships along the way. Click the link to find out more about upcoming voyages.

Our last flashback for 2018 is, of course, Cor becoming the first female quadruple amputee to climb Kilimanjaro alongside Nicola and a team of fundraisers who will forever be a part of our story. It made news worldwide, but we kept back some exclusive snaps from the mountain. Have a look here – hopefully they inspire you to get out your comfort zone in 2019!

We can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store……
