International Women’s Day 2026

March 8, 2026

International Women’s Day:

Standing With Women & Strengthening Futures:

At Finding Your Feet, we see the power of women every day — women rebuilding their lives after limb loss, women supporting loved ones through trauma, and women who show extraordinary resilience even when the world underestimates them.

International Women’s Day is a moment to celebrate these women, but also to recognise the inequalities they still face — in healthcare, in representation, in safety, and in opportunity. This year’s theme reminds us that progress doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when we choose to challenge inequality and choose to lift women up.

Women and Limb Loss: The Hidden Realities

Limb loss affects thousands of women across the UK, yet their experiences often go unheard. Many face unique challenges, including:

  • Higher rates of social isolation after amputation compared to men
  • Increased likelihood of being primary caregivers, even while recovering themselves
  • Greater financial vulnerability, with women more likely to reduce work hours or leave employment after major health events
  • Under-representation in prosthetic research and design, meaning their needs are often overlooked

These realities make emotional and practical support absolutely essential — and that’s where your help makes a real difference.

Women’s Inequality: The Bigger Picture

International Women’s Day isn’t just about celebration; it’s about awareness and action. Globally and in the UK:

  • Women are still paid around 14% less on average than men
  • Women perform 60% more unpaid care work, oftenimpacting their health and financial independence
  • 1 in 3 women worldwide experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime
  • Women are underrepresented in leadership, making up less than a third of senior roles globally
  • Disabled women face double discrimination, experiencing higher unemployment and poorer health outcomes

These aren’t just statistics — they’re reminders of why support, community, and equality matter.

How Finding Your Feet Helps Women Rebuild

When someone loses a limb, the physical recovery is only part of the journey. The emotional impact, the isolation, the fear of the unknown — these are challenges no one should face alone.

Your support helps us provide:

  • Peer support groups where women can speak openly and feel understood
  • Confidence‑building activities that restore independence and joy
  • Practical help that eases the everyday challenges of life after amputation
  • A community that listens, supports, and empowers

Every woman deserves to feel strong, capable, and connected — and your generosity helps make that possible.

This International Women’s Day, Your Support Matters More Than Ever

If you believe in equality…

If you believe in dignity…

If you believe that no woman should face life-changing challenges alone…

Then you believe in the mission of Finding Your Feet.
