“Our daughter has had the opportunity to play football, rock climb, ride bikes and make new friends. It’s also been great for us to meet other parents who are in similar situations.”
We want to show those affected by amputation or limb difference that leading a fun, active lifestyle is possible. With so much pressure on young people already, our work with children and young adults gives them the ability and social skills to fit in in other parts of their life and to not feel isolated. Alongside our recrurring clubs, we plan free events and activities throughout the year that fit in with school holidays for Junior Troopers and their family. Other than seeing their young ones happy, active and socialising, a massive benefit for parents is speaking to others who are in a similar situation, as well as older amputees.
Not only does our work allow the Junior Troopers to feel normal, it can also open doors to exciting and life changing opportunities. In 2016, four of the young people we work with were featured in Channel 4’s “We’re The Superhumans” to advertise the Paralympics. In 2017, the advert won the Grand Prix for Film at the Cannes Film Festival.
2018 was a busy year for our clubs with our monthly Climbing Club, which is now being sponsored by our Corporate Partners Slater and Gordon Lawyers, moving to the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena which is a much bigger and better facility, giving our Troopers some very challenging walls to push themselves on. And as you can see from the pics below our youngsters love it!
The events we organise don’t just benefit our Troopers. Our parents came together recently at our Annual fundraiser The Bionic Bash, showing the friendship that has grown among them. They had a great night letting their hair down and enjoying the entertainment.
With our parents in mind we recently launched our Trooper Parents facebook page where parents of our Junior Troopers can share experiences, stories, successes and ask/answer questions. To join please click here.
We like to make sure our Junior Troopers whole families are included when we can and Ryze seemed the perfect place for all the kids to well….let off some steam!!
‘Kids had a great time at Ryze this morning….thanks FYF ‘
